The Extension
Extending Impact
The Extension, located in Cobb County, has helped hundreds of men and women experiencing homelessness take control of their lives back from drug and alcohol addiction. Its signature three-phase program includes group psychotherapy and psychoeducation, individual counseling, and case management tailored to the needs of each client.
The Extension’s vision is to extend its efforts to reach more people and make a greater community impact. The first step in this vision was to raise needed funding to construct a new facility to increase the men's campus capacity by 70 percent for a total of 82 beds.
We began our work together in February 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we immediately pivoted to leading one of our firm’s first-ever virtual campaign planning studies.
“Those in our program sought us out to help them achieve what they barely considered possible when they first asked for help. As an organization, we had to face the fact that we were in the same place. There was no clear path forward for us until Coxe Curry showed us the way, much as we do for our own clients. Coxe Curry helped us achieve what we simply could not have achieved on our own. For us it means that we can do the same for many more people in our community with the same longing. And like our clients, we are forever grateful for the opportunities we now have.”
Next, we directed and managed the Building Solutions campaign, what Executive Director Tyler Driver described as “the single most ambitious undertaking in our history.” Even when cost escalations drove the project budget up by an additional $1 million, Coxe Curry helped The Extension get to their goal. The nonprofit celebrated the groundbreaking of the new men’s facility in 2022 and cut the ribbon on the building in 2023.
This was just the first chapter in our work together. To be responsive to its program and facilities growth powered by the campaign, the Extension next engaged us to deliver a comprehensive development assessment and additional projects that leveraged our writers, analysts, and Interim Staffing associates to strengthen every aspect of The Extension’s development practices.
The result of this soup-to-nuts work with Coxe Curry? A stronger organization with even bigger ambitions.
